Job Description To plan, implement and evaluate the provision of high-quality medical care, with appropriate resource management, to children and adolescents in the respective clinical area. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta invites interested applicants for the position of Aflac Hematology Oncology Nocturnist Clinician. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center provides a rich and collaborative environment and has a diverse faculty and robust group of advance practice providers who together care for patients with oncologic and hematologic disorders. The nocturnist clinicians will be an integral part of the care team. About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center The successful candidate will join one of the strongest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the country. In 2021, the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center was ranked No. 6 in the nation for Pediatric Cancer by US News and World Report. More than 7,000 children with cancer and blood disorders are treated annually at the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. The Aflac pediatric hematology program is the largest in the country (including >2,000 active patients with sickle cell disease, and 600 with bleeding or clotting disorders). We are home to the largest pediatric Sickle Cell program in the country conducting basic, translational, and clinical research related to Sickle cell disease and hemoglobinopathies. Our Hemostasis and Thrombosis program is one of the premier programs in the nation consisting of a large clinical program and a diverse research program. The Aflac pediatric oncology program cares for approximately 500 new pediatric cancer patients each year, including patients with leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, and brain tumors. The Aflac Blood and Marrow Transplantation program performs 80 transplants each year. The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center has 115 faculty and 35 Advance Practice Providers (APPs). In 2020, Aflac faculty generated $21.5M in extramural funding, including more than $12.3M from the NIH. The Aflac fellowship program accepts 6 fellows each year for intensive clinical and research training in pediatric hematology/oncology. This position will devote effort to inpatient clinical responsibilities from 7PM-7AM for a total of 123 shifts/year in the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Provide exemplary clinical service and assure that patients cared for by you receive only the highest quality care. Successful candidates will have: MD, MD/PhD, or DO degrees. Experience No minimum Experience Required. Preferred Qualifications Experience in respective clinical area. Education Graduate of an accredited, four-year medical school. Graduate of an accredited, post-graduate residency program in Pediatrics. Certification Summary Board Certified/ Board Eligible in Pediatrics. Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia. BLS or PALS certification required. Current DEA registration. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and families and as a team member. Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff. Demonstrates the following skills in accomplishing job duties and responsibilities: personal organization and time management, human relations and teamwork, personal adaptability, personal motivation, and listening. Job Responsibilities Provides patient care within the respective clinical area which complies with the Professional Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations and Children’s policies and procedures. Participates in and incorporates Quality Improvement and research findings into practice. Provides and/or serves as a resource for patient/family and staff education. Educate and assist trainees with medical decision making. Provides an authenticated report of all physician services rendered and maintains accurate and complete records in an acceptable manner. Completes necessary documentation and ensures timely communication to facilitate patient care and appropriate reimbursement. Actively responds to patient and clinical staff questions and requests. Participates in meetings/activities as required to support operations of the clinical area. Participates in activities that enhance professional development, complete, and maintain certification in BLS, PALS, or NALS and maintains any additional specialty training/certifications as required by the area assigned. Performs other responsibilities as required.
