Job Description Oversees and develops neurofunctional assessments, including neuropsychological and psychological batteries. Assists with translating the findings from these batteries into therapeutic approaches which can be utilized by a transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary team. Participates in the supervision of students/residents. Counsels and educates families concerning neuropathology and management of neuropsychological deficits. Assists with the coordination of a clinical database and promotes research. Assists in the development of policies and procedures to provide the highest quality of care for patients within the scope of practice and established standards for psychologists. Maintains the highest standards of safety throughout service provision. Cooperates and collaborates with parents, caretakers, and other professionals to meet the total needs of the patient and family. Open Rank, Full-Time Faculty Position (0.8 FTE) Department of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory University Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants for a faculty position (open rank) in the Section of Psychology. The Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is a national leader among childhood cancer, hematology, and bone marrow transplant programs. Aflac Psychology is a valued Section of the Center with 11 faculty psychologists and neuropsychologists, two psychometrists, up to three postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students who engage in patient care and clinical research in the areas of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult psycho-oncology and -hematology. About The Aflac Cancer And Blood Disorders Center The hired neuropsychologist will join one of the strongest pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the country. Our oncology program cares for more than 500 new cancer cases per year. We represent the pediatric arm of Emory’s NCI-designated Winship Cancer Center. We have the largest pediatric hematology program in the country (including 2000 active patients with sickle cell disease) and one of the four largest pediatric oncology programs in the country. Our blood and marrow transplantation program performs an average of 80 transplants annually. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta—the only tertiary pediatric center in the dynamic metropolitan Atlanta area—serves a population of nearly 6 million people, providing a strong basis for clinical programs in rare disorders. The neuropsychologist will join a multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, hematology and oncology providers, as well as advance practice providers, social workers, child life specialists, and hospital-based teachers. This is a primarily clinical position with up to 80% time dedicated to patient care. Candidates with a strong record of scholarship and extramural grant funding may be eligible for an additional 20% time dedicated to research or a reduction in clinical responsibilities if successful in securing grant funding to cover clinical effort. Clinical responsibilities include the coordination and provision of comprehensive neuropsychological assessments to outpatients with hematology and oncology needs, pre- and post-treatment screenings, brief targeted screenings, and (limited) inpatient evaluations. Full psychometry support is provided. Opportunities for program development are also available, and clinical responsibilities will include developing disease-specific screening clinics. Available training opportunities include the supervision of pediatric neuropsychology and psychology fellows and doctoral students from local universities. Research responsibilities center on the coordination of neuropsychological and psychological data that are part of collaborative group (e.g., COG, PBTC, PBMTC, etc.) trials. Consultation/collaboration with our hematology/oncology providers and pediatric psychology team is also available. Successful candidates will have: PhD/PsyD from an APA/CPA-accredited program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology Completion of an APA/CPA-accredited internship Completion of a two-year Neuropsychological Fellowship with specific focus in pediatric neuropsychology Currently licensed as a psychologist or license eligible to practice in Georgia Eligible to obtain board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology Preference will be given to candidates with related pediatric hematology/oncology experience and/or board certification (ABPP) in Clinical Neuropsychology. Salary and rank at Emory University School of Medicine will be commensurate with experience and accomplishment. Implements and oversees inpatient cognitive remediation techniques. Provides appropriate assessment and appropriate treatment. Develops and successfully implements assessment standards and treatment plans that support established goals. Documents weekly/monthly treatment notes following established standards. Completes discharge and follows up according to departmental standards. Demonstrates commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement. Bills appropriately for services in accordance with regulations set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Provides supervision to the psychometrician and students. Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided. Delivers competent patient care, integrating infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development. Delivers competent patient care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age. Demonstrates and practices family-centered care. Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family. Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of understanding. Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary. Includes family/caregiver participation in all phases of the patient’s program.
