Position Summary:

Shift: Days and Every Other Weekend

Responsible for assisting the Laboratory Director in the management and supervision of the laboratory through planning, coordinating, implementing, evaluating and improving the quality of patient care delivered. Expected to maintain confidentiality. Coordinates and facilitates technical activities of the areas managed. Monitors performance quality as required by licensing, accrediting and regulatory agencies. Assists in the daily planning and organization of work activities to achieve maximum efficiency. Maintains teamwork and communication with the physicians, nursing staff, laboratory staff and administration by providing internal and external customer satisfaction and appropriate resource management. Must have knowledge of the medical necessity requirements as defined by CHFA and the HSA compliance plan. Performs moderate complexity and high complexity laboratory testing on clinical specimens (blood, urine, other body fluids and/or tissue). Works only in those laboratory sections consistent with the employee's State licensure. Works routinely in Immunohematology and/or Microbiology as licensed. Participates in training of new staff and of students. Maintains adequate level of supplies to ensure continuity of laboratory activities. Capable of working without direct supervision. Work customarily involves any testing which may require a high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in licensed area(s).

Qualifications:

Years of Related Experience

  • Minimum: 0-1
  • Preferred: 2-4

Licensure/Certification/Education (Required):

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemical Science, or Biological Science from an accredited institution, including at least 24 semester hours of academic science (6 hours in biological sciences and 6 hours in chemical sciences). If the degree is from outside the U.S., an equivalency evaluation may be required to meet staff sign-off requirements. Minimum of 3 years as a clinical lab technologist, with at least 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
  • Supervisor licensure is encouraged/preferred but not required. The license must cover at least 5 areas, including Clinical Chemistry, Blood Banking (Immunohematology), and Hematology, satisfying the need for a generalist.
  • Education: Technical School/2 Years College/Associates Degree
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
