Job Description

Summary/objective

Buffalo Rock is an award-winning Pepsi and Keurig Dr Pepper bottler founded in Birmingham, AL more than 123 years ago. Buffalo Rock manages the best beverage portfolio in the country, which includes several beloved global and regional brands. The Material Handler will be responsible for ensuring accurate receipts and replenishment of raw materials to Manufacturing, with efficiency and in a safe manner. The Material Handler will also be responsible for handling dunnage and must be able to cross-train and perform any other Forklift Operators' job functions.

  • Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position. Position is required to work all hours necessary to ensure operations function is fulfilled, including nights, weekends, holidays.
  • Operate sit-down forklift ensuring the safe and efficient movement of products.
  • Must perform pre-trip inspection on all power equipment used through InfoLink system.
  • Follow all driving rules and always be aware of the surroundings.
  • Report any equipment malfunction and accidents/incidents to a member of the management team.
  • Must be familiar with warehouse and production areas to ensure best time management in completing his/her assigned duties.
  • Rotate stock, following Location Base Inventory (LBI) process to ensure proper product rotation according to FEFO (First Expired / First Out) method.
  • Move/replenish raw materials to the production lines with accuracy following the Production Schedule in a timely manner.
  • Prevent lines running out of bottles/cans, lids, caps, cartons, or any other packaging materials needed. Partial pallets of materials must be moved for use first.
  • Ensure all unused materials are properly received into the Warehouse Management System and placed back into stock.
  • Load plastic trays at the Denester, pulls empty pallets from the Depalletizer and keep bins supplied as needed for production lines to run with zero to minimal disruption.
  • Load/Offload different materials while inspecting general conditions and quantity. Product may include but is not limited to product to/from franchises/stores, raw materials, purchase product and dunnage.
  • Receive materials into the Warehouse Management System utilizing electronic devices (tablets and RF Scanners) to process the receiving/moving transactions.
  • Must properly handle raw materials, preventing any damage to the product.
  • Load/offload, sort, organize, and stock dunnage from BRC franchises and vendors with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with Production Supervisor through the radio to deliver/pickup materials in a timely manner according to the production needs. Promptly respond to any radio request/call throughout the entire shift.
  • Collect and move damages to the designated recycling areas.
  • Communicate with Lead/Warehouse Supervisor about any damaged or abnormal condition found regarding equipment/trailers/products in a timely manner.
  • Identify needs and assist other areas when appropriate.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of equipment and work area. In the case of any product spill, mop as needed to keep the floors clean and dry.
  • Use proper lifting techniques to avoid injuries and follow the BRC safety practices.
  • Make sound decisions and multitask simultaneously without constant supervision.
  • Adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions.
  • Required to follow the Good Manufacturing Program GMPs as listed in Code of Federal Regulations CFR 21 section 110. Requires participation in various Food Safety related training that Buffalo Rock utilizes. Required to report potential issues related to Food Safety.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Other Physical Requirements

All tasks within the warehouse are physically demanding and labor-intensive. Employees within this role are required to:
  • Lift product up to 30 pounds on a repetitive basis per shift and up to 50 pounds intermittently throughout shift.
  • Move and stack pallets weighing up to 65 pounds throughout shift.
  • Vision (Near, Distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and warm environment, especially during summer months.
  • Sense of Sound - Hearing is required for the total workday.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - high visibility shirt or safety vest, slip resistant shoes and safety glasses.
  • Sense of Balance.
  • Position requires physical presence at the Manufacturing Warehouse.

Required education and experience

Education

o High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
Experience

o (1) year previous in warehouse environment: Preferred

o (1) year experience as a forklift operator: Preferred

o Experience utilizing RF scanners and Warehouse Management Systems: Preferred
Skills

o Must be able to read product packaging and communicate in English via radio.

o Must be able to pass forklift certification.

o Ability to perform basic math and use Warehouse Management Systems.

o Ability to learn how and successfully operate Tenant Scrubber.
