About the Internship

Working with ITDP’s Development team including the Chief Strategy and Development Officer, Director of Development, and Development Managers, the Intern will support grant management, fundraising campaigns, and donor communications. The intern will report to the Development & Gifts Manager. The intern will gain exposure to sustainable transport, urban planning, and familiarize themselves with the grant management process, donor stewardship, and other aspects of fundraising.

The internship will last from February 2026 to May 2026, with a possibility of extension depending on academic eligibility. ITDP’s US-based team works in a hybrid environment, and the intern is ideally available to work in our New York City office at least once a week.

ITDP strives to integrate interns into our daily operations, with the expectation that the intern will provide meaningful support to our development efforts while gaining valuable experience and education in the field. An availability of 20 hours per week is required. A stipend is available of $400 per week for 20 hours per week. A computer will be provided during the internship, if needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the team in the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
  • Enter and maintain donor data, update funder profiles, and help with gift processing.
  • Assist with prospect research in ITDP’s geographies.
  • Explore creative ways to engage and expand ITDP's fundraising campaign strategy and gift acknowledgement with a focus on individual donors.
  • Provide general help to the development team, including organizing files and preparing materials.
  • Participate in other activities as required, based on the intern’s interest areas and skillset and the organization's needs.
  • Other intern related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in environmental studies, sustainability, urban planning, non-profit management or related field.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Suite.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or similar CRM tool is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with MailChimp is strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to advancing ITDP’s mission and to environmental and social justice.
  • Interest in donor stewardship and the role of development in non-profits.
  • Highly detail-oriented and organized.
  • Strong English writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Self-starter, creative, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in a team or independently with good interpersonal skills.
  • Open to feedback, with a strong desire to develop professional skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, and keep to deadlines.
  • Ability to work in ITDP’s New York City office in a hybrid model from February 2026- May 2026.

STIPEND

The intern will receive a stipend of $400 per week and work 20 hours per week.
